Amazon sent us an aluminum plaque of the cover to hang on the wall. I feel like a youtuber.

Plus, Nicki has a new book coming!

For the first time ever, Nicki and I have co-authored something. Isn't that fun? We had fun writing together, anyway. She's my favorite collaborator. A work wife who also happens to be my wife!

Our short story, Safe Harbor, is part of an Amazon YA anthology titled The Edge of Everything (also featuring old colleagues Rainbow Rowell and David Levithan, among others). It's The Breakfast Club meets therapy for children of divorce, but make it funny.

Always One More Time is Nicki's latest YA about...well, lots of things. But mainly missed connections, granting grace, and of course love. It's also one of her funniest books (Owen basically steals the show). Nicki's always been awesome at blending lightness with philosophical gravitas, sewing everything together with emotional intelligence. Can you tell I like her?

The cover itself is a photo of actual sea glass assembled by artist Danielle Duncan (who also does hilarious political satires with eggs). Hooray for people who make things!

Random realization: I recently learned about the PRIDE method of interacting with children (Praise, Reflect, Imitate, Describe, Enjoy). It's a beautifully easy and honest way to offer kids validation. But guess what—it also works with grownups of all ages, especially old people (like my absolutely insane mom). It made me wonder: Aren't we all kids no matter how old we get? And yet we keep trying to bury the child?

That's it for this one. In the next newsletter, I'll talk about the faith I'm finding in movies lately (Obsession, The Backrooms, Disclosure Day, Song Sung Blue, &c.). I talked a little about this faith last time with Killer Klowns From Outer Space.
